What does the Structures Team do?

The team uses SolidWorks to create a CAD model of the plane; individual parts and assemblies. We perform stress and strain analysis on critical components of the aircraft. Load cases are used to identify parts of the aircraft that are susceptible to failure. Teamwork and coordination skills are necessary to generate designs with other subteam agendas in mind.

As a structures team member, you will:

• Collaborate with all members to turn concepts into a physical design through the use of CAD
• Coordinate with Fabrications Team to determine the best method to manufacture designs
• Utilize Solidworks for CAD design of parts/assemblies and FEA methods on for optimization
• Prepare CAD designs for laser cutting, foam cutting, 3D printing, and CNC milling production
